DJ KO HIS COOKING & NEW MUSIC

DJ KO

Good Afternoon KO! Thank you so much for talking with Battered and Brewed!

What up What up! Honored to be here!

What was a typical dinner or family meal like for you growing up?

Tv trays and “In Living Color” or the “Simpsons.” Man! My mom could cook some delicious food!

Being an Southerner, where are some of your favorite “southern classics?”

Ooohh! So many classics, where to start… jalapeño cream corn and fried chicken smothered in hot sauce makes me happy.

Jalapeno Creamed Corn

Do you prefer to cook or go out?

I most definitely prefer to cook. I’ll start the oven and crank up the grill while jamming to some reggae or ska!! I do like to take my lady out on the town though. She loves going to new restaurants!

What are 3 things you can always find in your refrigerator?

Parmesan cheese, jalapeños, and smoothie Ingredients.

If you had to pick one type of cuisine, what would you say is your favorite?

Steak and Potatoes, is that a cuisine?

What’s your favorite dish you’ve had of that cuisine that you can remember?

My dad makes the best steaks! We believe the bone in Ribeye’s are the best cut.

After playing a late show, what is your guilty pleasure food?

After rocking a club or festival, it’s late night pizza or waffle house. Yezziiirr

What’s a typical day like for you (food-wise) when you’re at home and how is that different from when you are on tour?

Lol, I am so bad at schedules and consistency. Maybe something like:
Morning: Smoothie (spinach, frozen fruit, granola, peanut butter, milk, apples & bananas) & a granola bar.
Lunch: I have a great Mediterranean lunch spot by my studio. I tend to give them all my money. (chicken, gyro, salad,  and rice)
Dinner: Turkey burgers, tacos, marinated chicken, steak, sprouts, kale, baked potatoes

All of that sounds delicious! Tell us about one memorable meal you’ve had during your travels. What did that involve?

This meal was kind of memorable, but they paired each course with a drink, so it gets a little hazy. I took my wife to Eleven Madison in New York for our 1st anniversary. Its a super fancy spot that serves a 16 course dinner. There was definitely some interesting food, and we had a blast tasting everything and trying all the different drink pairings. Would I go back? No, I would save the money. But I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything.

Is there anywhere you like to eat in Nashville?

A lot like Atlanta, Nashville is booming with new and hip spots to eat and drink. I tend to end up at the Brazilian Steakhouse a lot. Other mentionable spots are Edley’s BBQ, Carrabba’s, Virago Sushi, and Pinewood Social.

What is your favorite spice/ingredient?

Hot peppers

What was your biggest cooking disaster?

Burning taco shells, every time lol

Is there anything that you don’t enjoy eating?

I still can’t eat onions. Something about the texture, or maybe it’s a mental game I need to conquer.

Do you have a favorite brew/wine?

I tend to drink Belgian high gravity beers like Delirium Tremens, Chimay, etc.

Delirium Tremens is a Belgian Strong Pale Ale style beer brewed by Brouwerij Huyghe in Melle, Belgium.

Your latest single “Goddess” is fantastic! Can you talk to us more about that?

This is one of my favorite records I have ever worked on. The song is a lovely mix between popular genres like Rap, EDM, & Pop. J and I (Phivestarr Productions) featured Rizzi Myers and Bingx on this song, and they as always took the production to a whole new level. We produced the record in my studio and started the session with Rizzi beat boxing and humming melodies in the vocal booth. After tossing around some writing ideas, we began to write a song about spoiling your love interest in luxury because they are worth every Benjamin. I wouldn’t say any one particular event inspired the song, but I believe we all enjoy occasionally being extravagant with someone special to us. Sometimes you have remind her she is a Goddess!

Where does your musical inspiration come from?

Inspiration surrounds me and I do my best to capture it in words and melodies.  I email myself the ideas so I don’t forget them. The hardest thing for me is to try to think of lyrics about heartbreaks and sadness because I am very happy and living everyday being positive!

Finally for Battered and Brewed, If you could have a drink with anyone, who would it be and what would you drink?

That’s a tough one, the easy answer would be my wife and it would end up being fireball lol. Hmm, ok I have it. It would be my son that I am about to have, and I think I would stick with a Belgium high gravity beer.

@djkophivestarr Love and happiness! Al Green voice!
